Coprophagia (Poop eating)
I'm amazed at how often I'm asked to remedy this behavior problem. Veterinarians are unsure of it's cause but many believe that it is a symptom of a nutritional imbalance. Whatever the reason, no one wants a coprophagous dog!
Let me share with you a cheap, simple remedy that I have advised with over a 90% success rate:
Mix in either pinapple juice or 100% canned pumpkin (not pie filling) into your dog's food. That's it!
Apparently this makes poop taste so bad (as if it needed any help) that your dog will not want to eat it.
I have often asked people who have tried
commercial remedies about their experience, but I'm yet to hear anyone say "This cured it!" So, I wouldn't waste any money on pills or other gimmicks. Have your vet run some blood work on your dog to check for any medical problems and try the "home remedy" that I advise above. This should deter the coprophagia immediately.
