While I'm at it, let me tell you what I use on my dogs:
I give them Sentinel flavor tabs which prevent heart worms while killing flea eggs and making the adults sterile. In conjunction with that, I also use Comfortis which kills any adult fleas that bite your dog. Along with bathing and grooming these products have been a godsend in the prevention of flea infestations. Just two pills per month and my dogs stay flea-free!
